About Book Swap Society

The Origin Story:

Book Swap Society was founded in 2022 by Nicole Wiebe. As an avid reader, Nicole was struggling with the high cost of buying new books and the seemingly endless waitlists at her local library. She had a simple idea: What if she and her friends could just trade books with each other? What began with Nicole and five friends meeting in a local Denver park to swap books and hang out quickly exploded into something much bigger. Nicole began organizing public events across Denver, and suddenly, those intimate gatherings were attracting 50+ readers at a time. The vision was clear: books should be enjoyed and shared, not just read once and left to gather dust on a shelf.

The Mission:

Connection Over Perfection In an increasingly digital world, it can be incredibly hard to make friends as an adult. We realized that adult readers were craving accessible, non-intimidating spaces to meet like-minded people offline.

Unlike traditional book clubs, Book Swap Society has absolutely no assigned reading and no pressure. We partner with local businesses—like breweries, coffee shops, and creative studios—to host laid-back social events. You simply bring the books you are ready to part with, "shop" our curated tables for new reads to take home, and mingle with fellow book lovers over a drink.

The Impact:

Growing a Sustainable Community What started as a single Denver chapter has organically grown into a multi-state operation, all run by our incredible network of passionate volunteer hosts.

But it’s not just about finding your next great read; it’s about giving back. Book Swap Society is fiercely committed to sustainability. By trading books, we keep them out of landfills and give them a second (or third!) life. At the end of every single event, all leftover books are circulated back into the community by being donated to local schools, charities, and Little Free Libraries.

Whether you're looking to refresh your bookshelves, support local businesses, or just find your people, there is a spot for you here.
